New Chair of the IALC
Mr. Séamas Ó Concheanainn
Mr. Séamas Ó Concheanainn, An Coimisinéir Teanga (Ireland), was elected Chair of the IALC in June 2025. His Office, Oifig an Choimisinéara Teanga, will host the IALC international conference in Galway from 8 to 10 September 2026. On his appointment as Chair, an Coimisinéir Teanga commented:
“Since its establishment in May 2013, the IALC has promoted language rights, equality, and diversity worldwide, while supporting language commissioners in upholding high professional standards. The IALC advocates for minority language rights and supports both indigenous and more widely spoken languages in diverse linguistic contexts. At its heart, the organisation is committed to protecting and strengthening language rights to ensure their preservation for and by future generations. We look forward to welcoming you to Galway for the 2026 International IALC to build on this important work.”
In commenting on the 2026 International Conference, the Chair said:
‘I am committed to protecting and strengthening language rights and to ensuring their preservation for and by future generations. The IALC will remain committed to raising global awareness of the challenges faced by minority language communities and providing a forum for the sharing of experience and information between its members.’
